Toronto Waterfront : Bascule Bridge

This is a Bascule Bridge that spans one of the ship channels on Cherry St.
It was built in 1931 for a cost of $149,000, which was probably a vast sum of money at the time. It is one of only three bridges in Toronto that runs north-south, along with the other bridge on Cherry St. and Bayview Bridge.

It functions with the use of 2 massive counter-weights.
